What is DSC?

DSC is the abbreviation for ‘Digital Signature Certificate’. Since most of the official, legal and commercial processes are done online nowadays having mandatory requirement of applicant’s signature, DSC is used to serve this purpose, which is actually an electronic format of the signature as a replacement of physical signature. Individual or Commercial Units need Digital signature for various reasons, such as:

  • Digital signatures are used in India in online transactions, like filing an Annual Return, Income Tax E-filing, E-tenders, Company or LLP Incorporation, GST Return, Online Registrations, etc.
  • Authentic DSC is accepted for businesses/official/legal processing and its validity expires in 1-2 years after which DSC should be renewed. Controller of Certifying Authority has sanctioned some certifying authorities in India for issuance of Digital Signature Certificate to ensure its authenticity.
  • Three classes of DSC as issued by certifying authorities, are valid in India:
    • Class-l Certificate, for individual/private applicants used to secure the email communication
    • Class-ll Certificate, for directors/signatory authorities of companies used for e-filing returns, online registrations, attestations, etc.
    • Class-lll Certificate, for vendors to use in online participations/bidding in e-auctions/e-tenders

Required Documentation For DSC Registration

DSC is necessary in India for both Indian citizen and foreign nationals for various official/commercial/legal purposes. To apply for DSC, these documents are required:

For Indian Citizens/Residents:

  • Passport Size Photograph
  • Applicant’s communication details, such as, phone number, email, etc.
  • ID Proof: Copy of PAN Card/Passport, etc.
  • Addresss Proof: Copy of Voter ICard/Aadhaar Card/Driving Licence/Electricity Bill/Bank Statement (latest), etc.

For Foreign Nationals:

  • ID Proof: Attested copy of Passport/VISA/Resident Permit Certificate
  • Applicant’s communication details, such as, phone number, email, etc.
  • Address Proof: Passport

Where, attesting authorities are Embassy of Native Country, Apostilized by Native Country, after Public Notary (if the country is in Hague Convention), Consularized by Native Country, after Public Notary (if the country is not in Hague Convention)

Note: Based on Service Type, we may require other documents, such as, Registered GST Number, etc.

Procedure To Register The Digital Signature (DSC)

Step-1) Provide us Information

Based on the Service Type that you’ve selected, you’re to provide us your information and documents (properly attested by the authorized signatory). We’ll crosscheck your documents for the sake of its validity to register your DSC. To process your DSC, we’ll be needing these compulsory information in your declaration:

  • Class of DSC
  • Validity
  • Type: Only Sign or Sign & Encrypt
  • Declaration
  • Authorized Signatory for Attestation
  • Fees

Please note that, it is mandatory for you to affix your recent photograph and sign the declaration paper with your authentic signature, otherwise we cannot process your DSC registration correctly.
