Valid GST registration will be physical verification, CBIC gave instructions

The CBIC has asked the field officers to conduct physical verification of the businesses receiving deemed (valid) GST registration between August 21 and November 16 to ascertain their actual status. Under the existing provisions of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) Act, if the tax authorities do not issue any notice within 21 days of making the application, it is presumed that the applicant has been registered. This is called deemed registration.

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has also told the tax authorities that in cases where the applicant has not opted for Aadhaar authentication or whose authentication has failed, GST registration should not be done on deemed basis . CBIC has instructed its field officers that the figures show,That in many cases valid registrations were issued between August 21, 2020 to November 15, 2020, where the option of Aadhaar registration was not taken. The board further said that in these cases there is a need to ascertain whether these are real businesses or they are intended to start business now. CBIC has asked for physical verification of the persons getting deemed registration.
