The last date to file your income tax returns (ITR) has gone for the financial year 2021-22. You should be aware of how to check that refund status after filing income tax returns. Those taxpayers who had filed their income tax returns should know the process of checking their refund status. Eligible taxpayers can see the refund status of their filed income tax returns online from the official website of the Income Tax Department- https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal.
The other way of checking the refund status is from the NSDL website. You can also check the website of the National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL) for the same at https://onlineservices.nsdl.com/paam/.
To check your refund status, your (PAN) Permanent Account Number will be required. When you log in to the website, you can check if your income tax refund has been processed or not along with the reason such as whether is there any pending e-verification or if any other error has occurred by the Income Tax Department.

- Secondly, log in with your PAN details and user id.
- Then Go to the option ‘My Account option and go to 'Refund/Demand Status.
- After this, select ITR and click on your acknowledgement, number https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal.
- Lastly, you will be redirected to a new web page with all your tax details, along with your refund status.
Checking ITR refund status using the NSDL website
- Visit the official website.
- Go to the provided link to proceed with the taxpayer refund status.
- Enter your PAN details and select the Assessment Year (A.Y.) 2022-23.
- Click submit.
- Your income tax returns status will be displayed on the screen.
The government has denied extending the income tax deadline from 31 July 2022 this year. If You still have not filed your income tax before the due date, You can still file your tax returns within the prescribed date of 31 December 2022. In case, you file your tax returns after the due date then you will have to bear the penalty for not filing your tax returns on time. Taxpayers will have to pay Rs 1,000 as a fine if their annual income is up to Rs 5 lakh. If your income is more than Rs. 5 lakh, then you must pay the penalty of Rs 5,000 as your ITR late fee along with interest on the late payment of income tax.
It must be noted that if your gross income is less than the basic exemption limit specified by the government, you will not be penalized for late filing of ITR. If you do not file your tax returns within the prescribed date of 31 December 2022 for the annual year (A.Y.) 22-23, you will not be capable of voluntarily filing your income tax returns for the particular assessment year (A.Y.). In this case, the income tax department will deliver you a notice about what needs to be done and the tax details that have been filed by you.
